Up, Up & Away

The Collection

Float into whimsical makes with the Up, Up and Away crochet collection—hot air balloons, tiny characters and a dreamy mobile add instant magic to nurseries and gifts.

The ‘Up, Up and Away’ Collection is a mix and match pattern series which allows you to crochet something that is unique to you. The hot air balloons can be hung individually, or combined with the mobile attachment pattern to create a stunning mobile. Characters can be added, and changed throughout the year, to create different scenes and keep things interesting.

The balloons can be customised to make a perfect gift for kids and adults alike, and the mobile makes an incredible gift for any baby shower as it will become the talking point of any nursery decor.

A more personal note: When I first sketched these balloons, I was chasing that quiet, hopeful moment before lift‑off—the hush, the breath, then up we go, off to drift and explore the world. I wanted patterns that feel relaxing to make and lovely to live with: smooth stitches, rounded forms and colours that make you smile. Each piece is modular so you can tell your own story—one keepsake hung over a desk, a trio if balloons drifting over a reading nook, or a full mobile that steals the show in a nursery.

This collection grew (and continues to grow) slowly in the best way. I keep coming back to the same idea: modern shapes with handmade warmth. The balloons are my canvas for colour play; the characters bring the smiles; and the mobile pulls everything together into a scene you can refresh with the seasons. I hope you feel that same little lift as you make.

The Balloons and Mobile

The balloons are the heart of the collection—sleek panels and a neat little basket that invite endless colour play. Whether displayed singly, as a trio staggered at different heights or brought together with the mobile they bring a gentle, floating feel even in the quietest corner.

The Ziggy
Hot Air Balloon

Two crochet hot air balloons hanging from a white twig tree with a green house plant in the background.

Originally inspired by the swirl of a candy cane, for a festive design, the Ziggy balloon quickly became a favourite all year round. Whether you choose rich, bold tones for a circus-themed nursery or stick to classic red and white for the holidays, Ziggy brings a sense of joy and magic to any space.

Mobile Attactchment

Included when you purchase the Ziggy Hot Air Ballon the mobile attachment lets you turn your balloons into a stunning mobile. The buttons allow the balloons to be swapped throughout the year.

FAQ's

Is the up, up and away collection no sew?

The collection favours no‑sew/low‑sew methods where possible but for some things sewing will give the best results. Any necessary joins are minimal and clearly explained.

For the balloons and mobile especially it is important to stick to the stated gauge so that the ball and hoop inserts fit, and so that everything works together.

Some of the characters work equally well as stand alone patterns, in which case altering the size by changing the yarn and hook is fine (and yarn substitution advice is given). However, if you are making them as part of the set it is important to stick to gauge so that they fit snuggly in the baskets.

Yes—premium PDFs include a step‑by‑step photo appendix and stitch photo guides.

No. All of my patterns are 100% human designed and produced (by me), as well as being professionally tech edited by a separate human. All images are photographed by me and no AI manipulation is used in their production.
