Skill Level
Confident Beginner.
This pattern is classified as Easy in accordance with CYC guidelines (CYC Level 2) as it includes simple stitch patterns, colour work and shaping.
However, whilst I would not recommend this as your first ever project, it can be done by an adventurous beginner.
You Will Practice

Yarn
Paintbox Cotton DK (50g/125m, 1.76oz/137 yards; 100% Cotton)
The choice of colour is entirely up to you, for reference one of the samples used:
- Yarn A: Champagne White Col No. 403 (approx 4g per snowman)
- Yarn B: Mustard Yellow Col No. 424 (approx 4g per snowman)
- Yarn C: Soft Fudge Col No. 410 (approx 4g per snowman)
- Yarn D: Slate Green Col No. 427 (approx 4g per snowman)
- Yarn E: Coffee Bean Col No. 411 (approx 4g per snowman)
- Yarn F: Granite Grey Col No. 407 (approx 1g per snowman)
As yarns B-F use such small amounts any scraps of yarn of a similar weight can be used.
Crochet Hooks
- 2.5 mm (or size needed to meet gauge)
Other Supplies
- Toy Stuffing
- Tapestry needle, stitch markers, scissors
Optional: 2 x 2p coins per snowman.
Safety note: The pattern includes an optional weighted base using coins to help your snowman stand. This option is intended for decorative items only and should not be used in toys or makes for young children.
Gauge
- Rounds 1–5 = 4cm diameter (with 2.5mm hook)
Gauge must be met if using as part of the Up, Up and Away collection to ensure compatibility with the balloon basket.
Finished Measurements
- The finished snowman is approx 9cm tall x 5cm wide.
